How to find the ONE who will capture your day as a PRO
We have met many customers whose first question was: HOW MUCH? And it's perfectly fine to ask that. Years ago, when I was a student, the price for my wedding photographer was the most important thing to me. I don’t even remember his sample pictures as I booked him for his price, not his work. Luckily, I got the right person and my wedding album was not a train-wreck. However, I often see samples posted on local video/photo websites that make me sad for the couples who hired them.
By force of habit, I always check the price-lists of such photographers/videographers. What I usually find is that they all are in the range of €400-600!
If money is a big problem for you, would that affect you buying such a product? I can't tell you that but what I can tell is that when I go to a barber I expect him to do a good job for his money. The price in Castlebar is €15 (men). Well, if someone said he could do it for me for €5, would I go? Probably not! Quality matters to me! In order to help YOU to find a proper video/film maker for your
Wedding Day I decided to post some tips. I hope they will help you to find the right cameraman/video editor for your Wedding Day. Here we go:
1. Remember, your Wedding Day can never be re-filmed! When in doubt, always think about that.
2. Look at the price carefully: if it’s too cheap, ask yourself why? If it’s too expensive, see more work to ensure it is worth it.
3. Check out more work of the same company/editor. If you find all the videos are too alike ask yourself if you would like such a composition yourself. Many experienced video editors use old fashion templates to build their Wedding videos. That would mean that your video will be the same as Mr and Mrs X from Galway and Mr and Mrs Y from Sligo, etc. You don’t want to end up meeting your cousin with the same style video in 5 years!
4. Watch the Demo video carefully. You should always remember - these are the best shots from the Wedding. If the Demo shows shaky video footage, imagine how other shots will look like. Ask yourself: would you survive watching shaky Wedding DVD for the duration of the wedding?
5. Look at the effects and titles. We are not in ‘90s anymore! Flying letters, cheap post-production effects are all in the past! If your videographer uses a style from the 90s, that’s the first sign to start worrying. Unless you don’t mind “old school”: slow motion, grave music, slow zooms, red hearts flying here and there...
6. Remember: you have to fall in love with the Demo! If the Demo does not attract you, the final video will not either!
7. Look for the videographer who has experience in not only Weddings but other areas too. Video work is very similar to life - it changes. If your videographer only shoots Weddings, then he either does it very well or he doesn’t shoot very often. We get experience through the variety of work. This includes films, music clips, commercials, etc. The one who calls himself a PRO should be interested in all types of videos, constantly learning and moving forward. The ones who stick to Weddings will hardly achieve better results in 5-10 years than they do now. Look for something fresh, new, fun!
8. Don’t be afraid to call the videographer if you have questions and want to see some more examples of their work. Call more than one. Give yourself a choice.
9. Don’t doubt when it comes to price for a quality work. You will spend thousands for the hotel, something which you will not remember in 2-5 years, don’t save on something that will last forever!
10. Whenever you are in doubt, remember the first tip!
